The Lumineers & Hippo Campus Light Up Bangor — July 15, 2025

On a mellow summer evening at the nearly sold-out Maine Savings Amphitheatre in Bangor, Maine, The Lumineers and special guests Hippo Campus delivered a night of groove, connection, and unforgettable music.

Hippo Campus kicked off the evening with a smooth, groovy set that set the tone perfectly. While their performance had more of a warm-up energy, their signature sound and tight musicianship still landed well with the crowd. Songs like “Buttercup” and “South” had heads bobbing, and their indie-pop rhythms rolled out like a wave across the lawn. Their stage presence was cool and collected, and while there wasn’t a breakout singalong moment, the audience was clearly tuned in and vibing along.

Then came The Lumineers, and the energy shifted. Opening with “Same Old Song” and rolling into “Flowers in Your Hair” and “Angela,” they immediately created an intimate bond with the crowd—especially by performing those early songs from a truss extending into the audience. It was a beautiful touch that brought the band physically and emotionally closer to their fans.

Their sprawling 29-song set was a journey through their entire discography, balancing chart-toppers like “Ho Hey,” “Ophelia,” and “Stubborn Love” with deeper cuts such as “Gun Song,” “Ativan,” and their tender Justin Bieber cover, “Ghost.” Highlights included the band’s spirited group performance on “Big Parade,” where each member took a turn at lead vocals, and “Leader of the Landslide,” which seamlessly folded in a snippet of The Rolling Stones’ “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.”

Throughout the night, The Lumineers’ ability to shift between raucous, foot-stomping anthems and quiet, soul-touching ballads kept the audience engaged and emotionally stirred. The production was understated but effective—letting the music and the genuine connection with fans take center stage.

By the time the final chords of “Stubborn Love” rang out, the crowd wasn’t just satisfied—they were moved. It was the kind of concert that lingers with you, thanks to heartfelt performances, thoughtful set choices, and a band that truly knows how to make a big show feel personal.
