The Maine Savings Amphitheater in Bangor, Maine, provided a picturesque setting for an unforgettable night of music with Hozier and special guest Allison Russell on July 24th, 2024. Despite a day marked by persistent rain, the skies cleared just in time for the show, creating a perfect evening for an outdoor concert.

Opening the night was Grammy-winning artist Allison Russell, whose soulful and powerful presence captivated the audience from the moment she stepped on stage. Russell, celebrated for her Grammy-winning single “Eve Was Black” from her critically acclaimed album *The Returner*, delivered a setlist that was both heartfelt and invigorating. She began with the enchanting “Hy-Brasil,” setting a mystical tone, followed by the moving “Eve Was Black,” showcasing her vocal prowess. She continued with a powerful rendition of “You’re Not Alone,” originally by Our Native Daughters, and the soulful “Superlover” from Birds of Chicago. The poignant “Shadowlands” and the hauntingly beautiful “Demons” led up to her anthemic closer, “The Returner,” leaving the crowd wanting more.

Hozier then took the stage to an eager and enthusiastic crowd, opening with “De Selby (Part 1)” and seamlessly transitioning into “De Selby (Part 2).” The Irish singer-songwriter’s rich vocals and poetic lyrics were on full display throughout his set. Highlights included the lively “Jackie and Wilson,” the tender “From Eden,” and the darkly poetic “Angel of Small Death and the Codeine Scene.” He continued with the intense “Dinner & Diatribes,” the lyrically rich “Francesca,” and the emotional “It Will Come Back.” A standout moment was his solo performance of “Cherry Wine,” which silenced the crowd in awe. Other highlights included “I, Carrion (Icarian),” the crowd favorite “Like Real People Do,” and a beautiful duet with Allison Russell on “Wildflower and Barley.” He wrapped up the main set with “Would That I,” “Too Sweet,” “Almost (Sweet Music),” the powerful “Eat Your Young,” and the electrifying “Movement,” before concluding with the iconic anthem “Take Me to Church,” which had the entire amphitheater singing along.

For the encore, Hozier returned to the stage with Russell, delivering a stirring rendition of “Nina Cried Power,” followed by a soulful performance of “Work Song,” leaving the audience in a state of euphoria.

The night was a testament to the power of live music, with both artists delivering unforgettable performances. The Maine Savings Amphitheater proved to be a perfect venue, offering a scenic backdrop to a night filled with soul-stirring music and memorable moments. Whether you’re a long-time fan or new to their music, this concert was a reminder of the joy and unity that live music brings to all.
